The past two years have been extremely challenging and difficult for our entire community as we have faced the ongoing effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. I am immensely appreciative of your patience and support throughout this unprecedented time. We have received new direction from the state of California with regard to the mask mandate for K-12 schools. Governor announced California will lift the school mask mandate effective midnight on Saturday, March 12, 2022. Beginning Monday, March 14, 2022, masks will be "strongly recommended" but will no longer be a requirement for students and staff in schools. Although, masks will no longer be a requirement, Semitropic School District will continue to support all families and employees who choose to continue wearing a mask. Our school will continue to supply masks to employees and students as needed. Over the next week ten days, we will continue to update parents, families, staff, and our community about our next steps. Please do not hesitate to reach out to the font office with any questions.

RE: NOTICE OF POTENTIAL EXPOSURE TO COVID-19 We would like to inform you that we have been notified about a confirmed case of COVID19 in a member of the Semitropic School community. The individual who tested positive (the “case”) was last on school premises on 1/6. All school areas where the case spent time will be cleaned and disinfected before they are in use again. We are working with the Kern County Public Health Department to follow up with the case and will reach out to all persons who are identified as having had close contact with the case to recommend home quarantine and COVID-19 testing. If you or your child are not contacted, it means that you or your child were not identified as exposed to the case. Please remind your child to use their face covering, stay home if they are experiencing any of the below symptoms, and wash their hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Symptoms of COVID-19 may appear 2-14 days after exposure to the virus and include: • Fever or chills • Cough • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing • Fatigue • Muscle or body aches • Headache • New loss of taste or smell • Sore throat • Congestion or runny nose • Nausea or vomiting • Diarrhea Anyone with COVID-19 symptoms should be tested. However, many infected people do not develop symptoms, which is why it is recommended that exposed people be tested whether they have symptoms or not. Ensuring the health and safety of our students, teachers, and staff members is of the utmost importance to us. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the office at 661- 758-6412.

Dear Semitropic Families, The California Department of Public Health provided all Semitropic students with no-cost-at home COVID-19 antigen (rapid) tests. The free self-administered tests are optional for students who wish to take a test, they are not required. Please see the details below if you are interested in securing an at-home test for your child(ren): When can I pick up a test for my child? -Parents can pick up a test for their child on Friday, January 7th or Monday, January 10th from 8:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. in the front office. If you cannot pick up your test during these dates/times, please call the office to set up a time to pick up the test. When should my child take their test? -If concerned about potential COVID-19 exposure, students should test immediately the day their testing kit is picked up, and again 3 days later. If there is no concern about potential COVID-19 exposure and students are not exhibiting any symptoms, the tests may be saved until needed. How long does the test take? -Rapid antigen tests provide results within 15 minutes. Where do I report the test results? -Positive test results must be reported to the front office at 661-758-6412. Only positive tests. What do the test results mean? -If a student tests negative for COVID-19, is not exhibiting symptoms, and has not been exposed to a positive COVID-19 case, the student may continue to attend school. -If a student exhibits symptoms and/or is exposed to COVID-19 an at-home negative rapid test does not allow a student to return to school. Students must report their health status to their school and await further instruction. -A student who tests positive for COVID-19 should remain at home, contact their school and primary care provider right away. Students who test positive will still need to isolate for 10 days. If you have any questions regarding COVID-testing kits and their use, please contact the office 661-758-6412. Thank you
